OFFICIAL CALL FOR CONVENTION SUBMISSIONS

The American Beethoven Society and the Ira F. Brilliant Center for Beethoven Studies invite members and other Beethoven enthusiasts to participate in the next ABS Convention that will take place during our “Beethoven@250” celebration. The convention will feature presentations, lecture/performances, Center tours, and social events, beginning with a keynote address by bestselling Beethoven biographer, Jan Caeyers, and culminating in a “Beethoven Ball” organized by Dr. Erica Buurman, director of the Beethoven Center.

Now calling for Papers and Lecture/Performance Submissions.

We are now calling for papers and presentations for the Convention. No later than March 16, 2020, please send, as an email attachment, a one-page proposal, including a brief bio, contact information, and abstract of your topic to Patricia Stroh, chair, ABS Convention at Patricia.Stroh@sjsu.edu.

We welcome proposals on any topic related to Beethoven but especially encourage presentations on the theme “Inspired by Beethoven.” The call is open to all: members as well as non-members who can bring in perspectives from literature as well as social sciences and all of the arts, including music. Joint presentations are also welcome. Musicians or composers who propose lecture/performances should include in their proposals links to an audio file or online recording with an example of your work, and details about your needs (instruments, equipment) for your performances.

Your presentation should not exceed 30 minutes; additional time will be given to questions and discussion.

The proposal deadline is March 16, 2020.

Notifications to applicants will be sent by April 10, 2020. A complete schedule, convention registration forms, and hotel information will be mailed in June 2020.

We look forward to hearing from you, as well as seeing you in September!

Warm regards,

Patricia Stroh
